Selena Gomez Finally Reveals the REAL Reason She Rarely Posts on Instagram, And It’s Actually Heart-Breaking

Social media is undeniably one of mankind’s greatest contributions – information dissemination and self-expression have become easier than ever, so has communication with friends and family from thousands of miles away. As much as social media has become a necessity in our every-day lives, it also comes with dangerous caveats that can impact our wellbeing in so many ways.

It is notorious for threatening and affecting our mental health but it’s not just us who face these challenges, celebrities do too.

Popularity in Social Media

The latest to open up about her struggle with social media is Selena Gomez, one of the most followed public figures on the photo-sharing app Instagram.

With 154 million people watching her Instagram feed, she can notify her fans of what she has been up to, or, in the case of some influencers, what they are having for breakfast or what they plan to bring to the next beach getaway. Her loyal fan following reflects her ever-lasting popularity and relevance to the pop culture despite taking a break from the busy scene.

For those of us who seek to get verified (the tiny blue check beside our username) on Instagram, Selena’s stronghold of followers is simply enviable.

With the many influencers out there, it is clearly hard to stand out from the crowd. But best be warned that being famous on social media is not all glitz and glamour, even for someone as established as Selena, who started appearing on TVs at such a young age.

Sudden Rest

Selenators probably have already noticed how she kept her Instagram presence low and quite minimal. Sans for a few sponsored posts and promotions of brands she collaborated with, the songstress is noticeably inactive on the ‘Gram.

In short, she’s not sharing personal matters nor her day-to-day goings on her account. But why did she decide to suddenly pull back from social media?

In an interview, Selena explained that she used to engage so much with her followers, but after deeming the habit as unhealthy, the 27-year-old decided to abandon the routine due to its effects on her mental health.

The time she and other young ones allot for reading and absorbing comments is really detrimental, she continued. The Wolves singer further admitted that she got depressed, doubted her perception of herself, and tried finding flaws in her body.

Powerful Yet Dangerous

As a result, Selena said she doesn’t have the app on her phone – the reason you won’t likely see her sharing how her day is going. To be fair, this wasn’t the first time the former Disney child star opened up about the pitfalls of social media.

Selena Gomez has previously talked about the pitfalls of social media

During the press conference at the Cannes Film Festival, the Wizards of the Waverly star expressed concern over how this ever-powerful vehicle can be harmful to young people.

While Selena acknowledged that social media is helpful and useful, she pointed out that it is scary to see how much time the impressionable youth invests on what can be a dangerous platform.

In 2017, she had also done the same, revealing that she uninstalls Instagram once in a while after trolls ended up pointing out her insecurities that it became too much to handle.
