Everyone Has to Have At Least Two Careers
![](https://psychicmonday.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/shutterstock_1253149234-667x600.jpg)
In this unpredictable world, it is not unusual to find a lawyer who works in renewable energy or an app developer who writes a novel. Have you heard of an editor who wants to become a landscape designer? Maybe it sounds strange, but an extra career these days can be a real life saver. After all, having two careers is definitely better than having only one.
[su_quote class=”cust-pagination”]“Any leader has two jobs to do. To do what they are currently doing better and more efficiently (call this strengthening the core), and to do what they are not currently doing but will need to do in the future (call this creating the new).” — Scott D. Anthony [/su_quote]
It is difficult, but it pays off in the end

With two careers, you have not just more possibilities for employment but also less time for yourself. People may frequently ask you, “How much do you sleep?” and “How do you find time to do it all?” but the key is good organizing abilities. If you know how to arrange your time the best way possible, you will definitely have enough time for both careers, and there will also be some extra time for your family. Well, this is if you want to work on one of those two professionally and to keep the other one as a hobby. No one can have two full-time jobs at the same time – that is for sure.
If it happens that you are not satisfied with one job, you can always quit and find a full-time employment in your other profession.

You will be happier and more fulfilled
And you will also perform better at each job. This is how: if you have chosen one career because you love it and the other one because it pays more, it is obvious that when you come home stressed from your full-time job, your other career will come as a relaxation. Since it isn’t money that motivates you to become better at your second job, there will be no stress involved, just pleasure. After this pleasure, you will be fulfilled and optimistic about your main job.
You may also volunteer as a hobby, and that way work on your second career by gaining experience in some new industry, at least new for you. Your first job may provide you with the regular income, and on the second one, you will get some new skills. These new skills may also be valued and even required at some point at your regular job – you never know.
You will make friends in different circles

For example, if you work in a bank, your professional circle is initially limited to other folks in the same sector. Taken together, all of you have more or less the same view on the world. Still, sometimes, to solve a problem, it is necessary to see it from a different perspective, or at least to hear a second opinion and often the best advice comes from a person who is not involved in the whole thing — or even who has no idea how the things work but is just being practical.
One other example, if you are a web developer but all of a sudden you need to translate something from the Chinese language, it would be highly beneficial if you were interested in the language privately, or even better if you knew other people who knew some other people who are, for example, Chineses citizens.

Sometimes, all you need to finish a job or solve a problem is a quality personal connection. By belonging to different circles, you can introduce people who wouldn’t ever meet otherwise.

You will be more creative
When you have different jobs, you can have more ideas and realize where they interact. “It’s technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the result that makes our heart sing,” – Steve Jobs once stated.
All in all, when people follow their curiosities, they bring passion to their new careers, which leaves them more fulfilled. And by doing more than one job, they end up doing all of them better. Simply, there is no lost nor wasted time.
