How To Boost Your Brain Function?
What’s the secret to keeping it at your best? According to James Mastrianni, M.D., Ph.D., and director of the Mental Health Research Department in Chicago, you should keep yourself healthy and constantly check your blood pressure and cholesterol with a balanced diet. In addition, habits are the brain’s natural defense against the memory loss that might come from aging or neurological disorders. There are tips you should follow to enhance your concentration, boost your memory and keep your brain’s top game always. To keep your brain on working at its best, here are the dos and don’ts.
Stop Multitasking Your Work
If you have somehow found your way into doing multiple things at once like reading while watching the television in your free time, this may be the time to think again. Multitasking, when analyzed, is not doing things at once. It is alternating two actions back and forth in a quick manner. This observation was made by the Director of Neuropsychological studies at Florida University, Glenn R. Finney, M.D., F.F.S.N. Keeping your brain sharp means to focus on individual task with minimal distractions. This will save you time in the long run.
Keep Your Body Moving and Active
Exercise can make your brain work. The brief and strategic sport of exercise enables an increase of energy and blood flow to the brain. The rush will allow your brain to work at its peak performance.
If you’re having a writer’s block, think that you are onto something, or stacked in the middle of a dilemma and couldn’t make things work, try taking a walk or go for a jog. This will refresh your brain and allow for some new idea to get into your head. Working your strength and cardio regularly is one of the best ways to keep your brain healthy for the long haul. The more you move your body, the higher possibility of it getting in sync with the mind.
According to studies, exercise can improve your cognition and improve risk factors for dementia. The recommended guidelines include the muscle activity for two days a week with at least 150 minutes of moderate to intense aerobic exercise per week.
Stop Ditching Your Sleep
The brain suffers when you lack sleep. Not having enough hours of sleep would make your brain unable to focus. Sleep relaxes your mind. Most of the adults need at least 8 hours of sleep. When feeling drowsy during the day, do a 10-20 minute nap to improve your focus. However, oversleeping for 40 minutes during the day would not be advisable since it could result in sleep interruption at night. Keep sleeping moderate.
Drink Vitamins to Revitalize Your Body
The brain function gets worse when there is insufficient vitamin D, vitamin B, and folic acid. Your diet should be balanced by eating low-fat dairy products, vegetables, and fruits to meet the recommended daily allowance. You could also choose to take multivitamins and take supplements that meet your vitamin needs.
Socialize With Your Friends Once in a While
Avoid the lazy-loner routine. Make plans with your friends and return their calls. Interacting with other people can increase the brain activity, keep the brain busy, and stimulate the mind. This is one of the best ways to keep brain activity working. This practice is a long haul habit that improves your problem-solving skills due to the unexpected situations you are about to go through. It also helps for the brain to function well and improve.
Eat Healthy Fats
Go for foods that are rich in omega-3. These foods include some nuts and even the good fats found in fish. They will help in keeping the brain cells function. Studies have found that omega-3 fatty acids can improve your cardiovascular function. Note that anything that is good for your heart will also mean it is good for the brain. To make sure that the brain works at its best, it is important to increase the blood flow to the brain.
Avoid Stress at All Cost
This would not be easy but bear with me. Being stressed and dealing with anxiety could help you solve the different problem, that’s what pressure does. But did you know that taking in too much stress could backfire? This could keep the brain from absorbing as much information as it could. In the long run, these stresses would build up and develop triggers until you snap.
