Binge Eating Can Prove Harmful To the Health
Food is an essential commodity which is a requirement for everyone. Quite a few people, however, have too much food on occasions. These are people who are affected by the binge eating disorder because they are compelled to continue with this habit regularly. People affected by the binge eating disorder overeat regularly for a period of three months or longer.

The Reasons For the Development of Binge Eating Disorder
People who are affected by the binge eating disorder often feel they are unable to control either the quantity or the type of foods they are having. They are accustomed to eating when alone and until they begin to feel sick. Eating when they are not hungry is also another habit which they develop. They are overcome by guilt, shame, and sadness after indulging excessively and embarrassed to the point where they make every attempt to hide their behavior from family and friends.
Binge Eating Is Not Similar To Bulimia
Despite having similar symptoms that are differences between binge eating and bulimia. People with bulimia also overeat regularly and as well suffer from the emotions that are felt by people who are binge eating. However, people with bulimia often force themselves to vomit, use laxatives or decide to exercise too much. Purging after eating is not a symptom of binge eating disorder.
Who Are at Risk For Binge Eating Disorder
This is a common disorder within the US and any individual can develop binge eating disorder regardless of race, gender, age or weight. Women are more susceptible to this disorder though men are also known to have it. Approximately 6 million Americans are likely to suffer from binge eating disorder at some point during their lives. While men are likely to have it during the Middle Ages the number of women who are suffering from this condition is 3.5%. Teenagers are also susceptible to this condition with about 1.6% being affected.
What Are The Results of Binge Eating Disorder
It is common to notice people with binge eating disorder to suffer from problems of weight gain. Approximately 33% of people who are suffering from this disorder are obese and studies which have been conducted have revealed information that nearly 30% of people that are seeking weight loss treatments could possibly be suffering from this condition. These people are also factors of related conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, and type II diabetes.
Is Binge Eating Disorder Just A Matter of Habit
Binge eating disorder is not just a condition of the mouth or the stomach. The condition is related to emotional and mental health problems which can include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and substance abuse. People with this condition may have trouble sleeping along with low self-esteem and shame about their body image.
The Causes For Binge Eating
Researchers do not have sufficient information about the causes of binge eating disorders. They have mentioned that factors like the genes of an individual, psychology, and background would be involved with the condition. Dieting has been suspected as a cause for binge eating disorder despite no information being available about whether it could be a trigger for this condition. It can also be the result of stressful conditions or life events that are traumatic.
Binge Eating Disorders Are Entirely Treatable
If you believe you are suffering from a binge eating disorder you should be aware that the condition can be treated effectively. You will be required to go through an initial exam with your doctor who could question you about your eating habits, feelings towards food, emotional health, and body image.
You will thereafter receive help with your thoughts from a psychiatrist or a counselor to work on emotional issues which may be affecting you. Cognitive behavioral therapy may also be used to change your thought patterns which are sparking the binge eating. You may also receive help from a nutritionist who could give you tips about eating habits and keeping a diary when you are recovering.
