Food is essential to human life. But as crucial it is, unless you eat healthy food in the right quantity, it can prove to be adverse to your wellbeing.
Did you know that a majority of the foods that you love may be harmful to your health? It’s common knowledge that foods with excessive sugar and overly fat content are bad, but what are some other edibles that aren’t so good? Let’s find out.
Diet Soda
It may come as a shock to you, but diet soda tops our list! Diet soda contains artificial sugars like aspartame, saccharin, or sucralose, which have been proven to harm the body more than sugar. Research has shown that these substances have been linked to cancer and gastrointestinal diseases. Diet soda is also harmful to diabetes patients. Aspartame, a key ingredient in the production of diet soda, causes dizziness and seizures.

Processed foods
The processes some foods undergo to become consumer-ready make them unhealthy. Frying, broiling, and grilling are part of those processes. It is quite surprising that those techniques have made the list because we use them in everyday cooking.
But the truth is, when foods undergo such a process, they become highly palatable and calorie-dense. Unhealthy chemical compounds like acrolein and oxysterols also make way in food during these processes. Studies have shown that these compounds cause cancer and heart diseases.
Strawberries
Are you wondering how strawberries are on the list? Well, research has shown that strawberries are one of the foods that are highly contaminated with pesticides during their growth. Such pesticides contain chemical compounds that deteriorate human health. According to a study, pesticides are endocrine disruptors. They bind to human hormone receptors and cause a mild or high effect on them, thereby disrupting their normal function.

Agave nectar
Agave nectar, usually known as a useful substance, is not as healthy as perceived. It contains a high content of fructose, which is dangerous to human health. Agave nectar contains more fructose than table sugar, which includes 50% fructose. It roughly includes 87% fructose.
Processed meat and cheese
Reports have shown that people who regularly ate processed meat are at high risk of having colon cancer and diabetes. As compared to processed meat, unprocessed meat is healthy and highly nutritious. Processed cheese is treated with ingredients that make it look attractive and smell better. It contains fewer nutrients when compared to real cheese.

Wrapping it up
Contrary to what many believe, most of the food we consume daily is bad for our health. Not only the foods themselves, but the way they are processed makes them harmful. Some of the foods that have made the list above have alternatives. You could opt for untreated meat and cheese and do away with soda, for instance. Ultimately, it is up to each of us to make healthy eating decisions.
