These Legendary Stars You Forgot Are Still Alive & Kicking

Every now and then, you sit back on your couch and watch some old movie, which is even black and white maybe. How would you feel though if you knew that some of these iconic actors you see playing in these vintage films are still alive? Many of these stars helped shape the Golden Age of Hollywood, and even if most of them are now in their nineties, they take good care of their health, still looking glimmering. Others haven’t even retired, and a few wrinkles haven’t stopped them from acting. And while most people on this list are actors, there are some surprising entries that you wouldn’t want to miss!

Loretta Lynn, 86 Years Old

Loretta Lynn is considered to be country music’s absolute Queen—and she has multiple awards to prove this. Lynn has won both Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association accolades. In 2018, she was also named Artist of a Lifetime by CMT. Lynn currently has not done retirement planning as she also released a new record titled Wouldn’t It Be Great in 2018.  Even if they faced numerous marital problems throughout the years, Lynn has only married once to Doolittle Lynn and they have 6 children together. Doolittle, who died in 1966, was the one who bought her her first guitar. And in case you didn’t know, Lynn was self-taught.

Jerry Lee Lewis, 82 Years Old

Jerry Lee Lewis was quite the bad boy during his life, but fortunately, he calmed down as he grew up. The rock n’ roll star has sold numerous records, and he has made a name for himself in the global music community. He faced several legal issues when he was younger, and believe it or not, his love life is a mess. We don’t know how he managed not to suffer from depression after seven marriages, but we guess it’s the ‘rock n’ roll genes’ that kept him strong after all.

Ali MacGraw, 81 Years Old

We would love to look like Ali MacGraw on our eighties, but for “mortals” like us, this would never be possible without cosmetic surgery. The iconic actress took part in many silver screen productions, though none of them has been as successful as Love Story, the movie which marked her career once and for all. Just like many other actors of her time, she’s a spokesperson for animal rights, and she once teamed up with PETA for a public announcement video.

Barbara Mandrell, 69 Years Old

Barbara Mandrell was a very popular country singer during the 1970s through 1980s. Some of her most popular singles were (If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want to Be Right, Sleeping Single in a Double Bed, and I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool. In the mid-1980s, Mandrell landed a long stay at the hospital after she was involved in a serious car crash. She has been retired since the late 1990s and chooses to live a peaceful life with her family these days. Her most recent release was a compilation album back in 2016 titled This Time I Almost Made It: The Lost Columbia Masters.

Ann-Margret, 77 Years Old

Who doesn’t remember the gorgeous redhead Ann-Margret? After decades in showbiz, both as an actress and as a singer, she has established herself as a true Hollywood A-lister, having starred in notable films such as Bye Bye Birdie and Viva Las Vegas. She was also romantically connected to the one and only Elvis Presley. Well, every woman then must have had a heart attack whenever they saw him, but Ann-Margret was the lucky one! The famous actress is now 77, and we’d love to know her secret about eternal beauty actually.

Sophia Loren, 85 Years Old

Sophia Loren was the ultimate female role model of her time, with her only rival being Brigitte Bardot. The Italian allure became a star of her time, and she’s still praised for her drop-dead gorgeous looks and finesse. The Italian film, Two Women, gave her an Academy Award, and her acting prowess along with her insane beauty transformed her into a Hollywood A-lister. You can be sure that she knows all about a healthy lifestyle, as she can still compete with younger women when it comes to glamour, despite being 85.

Harry Belafonte, 91 Years Old

Singer-songwriter, actor, and activist Harry Belafonte is credited for popularizing the Caribbean musical style internationally. He released Calypso in 1956 and it ended up being his breakthrough album. He’s perhaps best known for The Banana Boat Song and his music cuts across several genres, including gospel, blues, show tunes, and folk. As an actor, he’s appeared in numerous films such as Island in the Sun and Carmen Jones. In the ‘50s and the ‘60s, Belafonte was amongst the early backers of the Civil Rights Movement. Belafonte earned an honorary doctorate degree from the Boston-based Berklee College of Music in 2014.

Tina Louise, 86 Years Old

Realizing that Tina Louise is now 85 years old is quite shocking. The actress made a name for herself by portraying Ginger Grant in   CBS’s   Gilligan’s Island, and to be honest, her subsequent roles haven’t been that notable, even though she has been active in the industry for many, many decades. Louise has also released a personal music record,   Its time for Tina, and she’s an activist defending children’s rights. Also, Tina published three books, of which two are for children and are titled When I Grow Up and What Does a Bee Do?

Brigitte Bardot, 83 Years Old

Brigitte Bardot, in her time, was actress Sophia Loren’s greatest rival. She was jaw-droppingly beautiful and it so happened that she and Sophia were the same age, too. In her youth, Bardot actually dreamed of becoming a ballerina, but it didn’t take her long to realize how much better acting was for her credit report! It later proved to be a good choice as she starred in over forty films, strutted several catwalks, and released a couple songs during her active years. Julie Andrews, 83 Years Old

Younger generations still watch Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, and that’s just proof of how magnificent as an actress and singer Julie Andrews really is. Now at 83 years of age, her acting work still remains memorable and she still performs every now and then, even as a voice actress. Henry Winkler, 73 Years Old

Henry Winkler has been in everyone’s minds since his days as the Fonze in the TV comedy show,   Happy Days. Ever since then, he has had a prolific career as an actor and writer, has built a beautiful family, and has left his mark in the entertainment scene. Nowadays, he can be seen in   HBO’s   Barry   which has earned him an Emmy Award for his performance. Gene Hackman – 89 Years Old

Gene Heckman is a famous Oscar-winning actor whose career over six decades, with some pauses on a few occasions. He got his two Oscars for roles in   The French Connection   and   Unforgiven. Gene’s breakthrough role was for   in Bonnie and Clyde, which brought him his 1st Oscar nomination, and he was nominated four additional times. He played Lex Luthor in the Richard Donner   Superman   movies and was also in   The Quick and the Dead, Get Shorty, The Royal Tenenbaums,   and others. Gene’s most recent role was in   Welcome to Mooseport, in 2004, while he continued to publish books, with his most recent, titled   Pursuit, released in 2013.

Charles Grodin – 83 Years Old

Charles Grodin is an actor, comedian, and was a known TV host, who has been active since 1954. His movie career took off in the ‘60s with roles in   The Virginian   and   Rosemarys Baby. Grodin was also in   Seems Like Old Times, The Incredible Shrinking Woman, The Great Muppet Caper, Ishtar,   and others. He retired from acting in the ‘90s and went on to host the   60 Minutes II   show. Charles also had his own   Charles Grodin Show,   and authored several best-selling works. After pausing his career for his children, Gordin was seen in several movies in the past decade, most recently in   Madoff   and   The Comedian   in 2016.

Bill Murray – 68 Years Old

Bill Murray is a world-famous actor and comedian, who gained fame on   Saturday Night Live   throughout the ‘70s. He was in   Meatballs, Tootsie, Ghostbusters 1 & 2, Groundhog Day, and others. His portfolio in the new millennium also contains praised performances, like in   Lost in Translation, and Coffee and Cigarettes,   while his performances on   SNL   continued until 2018. Angela Lansbury, 93 Years Old

Her voice acting in   The Beauty and the Beast   animated film is still praised by numerous fans and critics. Moreover, her work in   Murder, She Wrote   was absolutely fascinating. During the ’60s, Lansbury’s children were rumored to have personal problems. Luckily, they recovered and followed their own careers rather successfully, supported all the way by their famous mother. Now, being 93 years old, Angela is one of the most recognizable faces in the 7th art.

Bob Dole, 95 Years Old

Retired politician Robert Joseph Dole served as a U.S. senator and before that, he represented Kansas in the House of Representatives. Dole then served as the United States Senate Republican Leader from 1985 through to 1996. He’s been awarded several honorary degrees, accolades, and awards throughout his lifetime. Dole is also a Russell Lodge No. 177 member and a freemason. Interestingly, in conversations, Dole has a fondness for referring to himself in the third person. Dole has struggled with several health problems in recent years unfortunately, which began way back in the ‘70s.

Barbara Walters, 89 Years Old

Television personality, author, and broadcast journalist Barbara Walters is perhaps best known for hosting   The View, the ABC Evening News, and   20/20.   In 2010, rumors circulated about Barbara retiring but she kept on contributing occasionally for   ABC News. She married her third husband,   Lorimar Television   CEO Merv Adelson, in 1981 but they divorced in 1984. Merv and Walters remarried once again in 1986 before finally divorcing again in 1992. Since then, Walters has dated several prominent figures, including Alan Greenspan, the U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman, and the United States Senator John Warner. Walters has had heart problems and in 2010, she announced on   The View   that she would undergo open heart surgery.

Jerry Stiller, 91 Years Old

Comedian and actor Gerald Isaac Stiller spent the better part of his career as one half of the comedy duo known as Stiller and Meara alongside his wife Anne. He later snagged a role on the   NBC   sitcom   Seinfeld   and then the   CBS   series,   The King of Queens. The two comedians are the parents of actor Ben Stiller, and Jerry has starred alongside his son in several films, including   Zoolander, Hot Pursuit, and   The Heartbreak Kid. Stiller met his wife at an agent’s office, and unfortunately, Meara passed away on May 23, 2015.

Angie Dickinson – 87 Years Old

Angie Dickinson was one of the most iconic female lead actresses for many decades during the peak of her career. She was considered to be a great feminine symbol back in the day. Her career portfolio has movies like Rio Bravo and Dressed to Kill in it as well as the series Police Woman. Despite her 87 years of age, she is still quite dynamic. Although the last movie that she participated in was Mending Fences back in 2009, she remains active in her own way within the industry. In 2019, she appeared on the short TV documentary titled Valerie.

Sean Connery, 89 Years Old

Sean Connery managed to melt the hearts of women around the world after portraying the role of James Bond. Vera Lynn, 102 Years Old

Vera Lynn is one of England’s most praised women, primarily for her musical efforts during WWII. She toured in India, Egypt, and other distant countries to perform for the English troops, relieving them of their stress and fear. When she returned, she continued to work on her entertainment legacy and slowly reached stardom. When she hit 100 years of age, in 2017, she released a special compilation album entitled Vera Lynn 100. Throughout her career, which began in 1935, Vera has released a total of 23 studio solo albums, with the most recent one from 2010 titled Unforgettable.

Bob Barker, 95 Years Old

Before the time of Oprah Winfrey and Jimmy Fallon, the hottest name in TV show hosting was Bob Barker. Bob is now 95 years old. He hosted numerous TV shows, and   The Price is Right   is still the longest-running daytime game show the US has ever seen. He also hosted many beauty pageants and was also seen on Truth or Consequences. Barker faced some health issues in the past, including a mild form of skin cancer, but he’s now more or less fine, considering his age, apart from a couple of slips. We bet that his fandom must be keeping him quite happy and rather lively even at his mid-90s!

Prunella Scales, 86 Years Old

English actress Prunella Margaret Scales is best known for her role on   BBCs Fawlty Towers.   She also appeared on   A Question of Attribution   as Queen Elizabeth II, a role that earned her a BAFTA nomination. She’s married to actor Timothy West and they have two sons together. Their eldest is director Samuel West. John Murray published her biography titled   Prunella   in 2005. Both she and her husband are appointees to the rank of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) Birthday Honours List. Scales also serves as an   SOS Children’s charity ambassador.

Jimmy Carter, 94 Years Old

Another former US President who’s currently in his nineties is Jimmy Carter, who led the country during the late ’70s and early ’80s. Carter had also served in the US Navy, something that he had dreamed of since he was a teenager. In the summer of 2015, the former politician and activist announced that he had cancer, and received aggressive chemo to fight against it. In 2015, reports claimed that Carter had recovered from his condition and that he didn’t suffer from the notorious disease anymore. Sadly, though, all three of his siblings had died from cancer.
