Kourtney Kardashian is Trying Keto, Here Is What’s So Appealing About This Low-Carb Trend
While it is best to embrace yourself no matter what season it is, summer is the most popular time of the year to look your absolute best and flaunt what you have – beach-ready or not.
But instead of jumping on a trending diet fad to lose weight, you should do what feels best for you and your body. For Kourtney Kardashian, she feels her best self when she follows keto – a diet that’s been steadily gaining popularity not just among health buffs but also celebrities.
Return to Keto Diet
As you would know by now, the Keto Diet has quickly become popular in the health industry, gaining traction especially over the past couple of years.
For Kourtney, she had previously admitted to trying the high-fat, low-carb diet in 2017 for two months after her doctor found that she had high levels of mercury and lead in her body. The expert also suggested that the diet could help detox metals from her body.
Kourtney’s doctor told her that when the body is in the state of ketosis, it becomes more efficient in flushing out all the toxins and harmful metals from the system.
To maintain this metabolic state, she was required to check her blood sugar and ketone levels every morning.
The keto diet worked wonders for the reality star’s health, so much so that she wants to return to the program again to see the results that she needed in time for summer.
The oldest of the Kardashian sisters wrote on her Poosh website that her secret to achieving the summer body she wanted was the low-carb lifestyle.
Kourtney explained that the keto diet greatly helped in curbing her sweet cravings and jumpstarting weight loss, so much so that she even touted it as the best method for weight loss that ever existed!
The 40-year-old doesn’t look a day older than 30, and the secret to her youth could very much be her healthy lifestyle. The mum-of-three said that she is committed to starting her keto journey next month by following the same process she did in 2017, as a way to get back on track after “treating” herself lately.
Specifically, the mother of three revealed she will not eat legumes, beans, and grains, and consume minimal carbohydrates. She will focus on lean proteins and green vegetables. She also added that she eats three meals a day and avoids snacking as much as she can.
Kourtney is also planning to skip fruits, sans a “small portion of berries,” root veggies, sweets, condiments and sauces, and alcohol.
What is Keto Diet?
Although the diet is now more popular than ever, not a lot of people understand how it actually works.
The Ketogenic Diet, or simply Keto, comes from the word ketosis: the state that your body enters once you drastically decrease your carbohydrate intake and increase your fat intake.
During this state, your body uses the stored fat instead of glucose, the main fuel source, for energy — a result of the ketones build-up in your body.
While the diet can vary from case to case basis, keto predominantly allows 60 to 75 percent of your calorie intake from fats, 15 to 30 from protein, and 5 to 10, carbs.
While the Keto Diet found a fan in Kourtney, it is worth noting that not everyone buys the rave reviews associated with the very restrictive diet.
Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels had been vocal about her stance against the program, even getting into an altercation with some celebs who are staunch supporters of the diet. Instead, she suggests a well-balanced diet.
