Be Patient
There always exists some discomfort due to the fallout from most relationships. You and your ex-partner both need some time to make the necessary adjustments. Therefore, do not be overbearing; rather remain patient until both of you are comfortable.
Try To Balance out Things

If you have children with your ex-partner, you are likely to be connected with the person for a long time. Ensuring that the children get the importance they deserve will make it easier for you to keep your priorities in line.
Avoid Threats And Name-Calling
You should try to have a mature and a respectful relationship with your ex-partner. This will be healthy for you, your ex-partner, and your current relationship. If you believe you that are not on a stable ground with your ex-partner, trying to communicate with him or her by using electronic media or through a third-party until things calm down. Threatening and name-calling will not help and is not suggested.
Family Gatherings Should Not Include Business Discussions
If you meet your ex-partner at a family event, avoid any discussions about the relationship. Discussions like these are best conducted in private and between the two of you.
Your Kids Should Not Be Used For Leverage
Don’t put your children between yourself and your ex-partner because this is one of the most damaging things you can do. It makes the people around you uncomfortable. It will also pose difficulties with your relationship with the children and your current partner.
Do Not Flaunt Your New Partner

If you have a new partner, you should keep them out of any business dealings with your ex-partner. Triangles can be difficult and painful for both your current partner and your ex. One of the two could decide to set roadblocks because they are feeling insecure or angry.
Refrain From Insulting Your Ex-Partner Before Others
If you speak insultingly to your ex-partner, the people around you may get the feeling you will display a similar behavior along with them as well. Adopting such behavior for the children will constitute as child abuse.
Being Friends Is Fine
Just because you have broken with your ex-partner does not mean you cannot be friends. As long as you are behaving appropriately—and not favoring your ex-partner over your children or your current partner— it would be beneficial for you to be friends. It gives the children the impression about how mature adults should behave. Most importantly, it helps both families to manage some difficulties that naturally occur in life.

Maintaining Some Distance Is Also Helpful
Ensure that you set proper boundaries with your ex-partner. Also, be open with your current partner about how you are dealing with your previous relationship. Having the entire group on the same page will prevent the occurrence of adverse events.

Do not let the uncomfortable feelings from a past relationship rule your life. Doing so is a waste of time and energy. Begin learning your lessons early and focus on the better things you are expecting.
