Exercising gives many benefits to our physical health and wellbeing, but the health experts reveal that there are also psychological benefits to exercising as well. For one, it helps improve your confidence and will give you an excuse to mingle and socialize with other people.

The more people you interact with, the more it drives your attention away from the sources of your anxiety. To commit yourself to regular exercise, the health experts recommend you choose an activity that you enjoy. Do not force yourself to jog when running isn’t your forte. You don’t need to stick yourself in a workout regimen that you don’t like. Instead, try dancing, cycling, swimming, or other activities you enjoy and look forward too. Breathing Exercise

Whenever we’re stressed or anxious, our body’s fight or flight response gets activated. What’s worse, your brain doesn’t identify whether the stress you feel is caused by a big project, possible promotion or a stress due to fear. Regardless of the stressor, your brain sends signals to your body that causes your heart rate to speed up.

If left uncontrolled, this can lead to shallow breathing and a panic attack. Breathing techniques such as deep breathing can help manage your stress, slow your breathing and heart rate. While it doesn’t take away your anxiety nor the stressor, it can serve as your short-term solution to prevent it from interfering with your work or activity. You can also try other healthy coping behaviors like repeating a mantra to help you manage your anxiety without relying too much on drugs.

Asking For Help

While these healthy mechanisms may help most people in managing their anxieties, it’s okay to ask for help if you feel it isn’t working for you. According to the health experts, you need to consult with your physician and work together to determine the best plan in coping with your anxiety with or without a prescription.

The most important thing is you’re able to live your life to the fullest without the anxiety holding you back.
