It is when countries will bring their prettiest and most passionate women together to advocate a better planet Earth. The gathering is usually referred as the world’s most beautiful night. The pageant is nothing but grand. It moves from country to country every year and hosting the pageant can cost thousands of dollars.

It is also the most popular and most acknowledged pageant to date. Beautiful women all over the world will showcase their talents, swimsuit bodies, national costumes, and most importantly, their wits.

Iris Mittenaere of France crowns her successor after a year of being Miss Universe

On the 26th of November, 92 women competed to win the crown and become the new Miss Universe. Three new countries sent a delegate for the first time and those are Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal. Iris Mittenaere, the Miss Universe 2016 is set to crown her new successor. It was a tough night for all the ladies, but they still brought their game faces on.

The Top 3

From the 92 women, only one will win and choose the best one is not easy. But as the night progressed, the women were slowly reduced to three. The top three finalists were Miss Jamaica, Miss Colombia, and Miss South Africa. All women are ambassadors for gender equality in their respective countries, and they all want the title to have a bigger platform in raising their advocacy.

Miss Colombia, Laura González Ospina, is a 22-year old Colombian model and actress. She is fluent in three languages, French, Spanish, and English. Miss Jamaica, Davina Bennett is a model and the reigning Miss Colombia. Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is also a model like the two other girls.

The Final Question

A question-and-answer portion is the last round of the pageant. All three women were given the same question, with a 30-second time to answer. The question was “What quality in yourself are you most proud of and how will you apply that quality in your time as Miss Universe?” Here are the finalist’s answers to the final question:

The Top 3

Miss Colombia said “I’m incredibly passionate about everything I do. With compassion, I have discipline. With compassion, I put my whole self in every situation that I work at. I’ve done this as an actress. I’ve done this a Colombian and I do not doubt that I will do this as Miss Universe”.

Miss South Africa’s answer was “As Miss Universe, you have to be confident in who you are as an individual. A Miss Universe is a woman that has overcome many fears and by that, she is able to help other women overcome their fears. She is a woman that nothing is ever too much is asked for and that’s exactly who I am”.

Miss Jamaica had the longest answer among the ladies and it goes “I’m most appreciative of is my drive, my determination. I am the owner of a foundation that spread awareness for the deaf community. And this platform is a great platform great to let persons know that these persons need opportunities and need equal opportunities as those in society”.

The Winner

All women had wonderful answers, and it is very evident that they have the compassion to help those who need them. All of them are beautiful and stunning, and they all deserve to bring home the crown. But after weeks of preliminary competitions and training, the universe finally welcomed its new ambassadress, Miss South Africa.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is the reigning Miss South Africa. This means she can represent the country in two prestigious pageants, Miss Universe and Miss World. But since there was a conflict of schedule, Miss South Africa has to choose between the two.

Miss South Africa was all smiles taking her first walk as Miss Universe

She is a 22-year old with a passion for women empowerment against criminals. This advocacy is very close to her heart since she was robbed and was held at gunpoint just a month after winning Miss South Africa. Since then, she discovered a new journey, and that is to train women so they won’t be easily attacked. She plans to continue this advocacy now that she is the new Miss Universe.

She is the second Miss Universe from South America and she ended a 39-year crown drought in her country. Her country last celebrated victory in 1978, when Margaret Gardiner won the title.
