Keto Diet is out, Ketotarian Diet is in — Here’s Why You Need to Try It
There are just tons of different ways to lose weight and stay healthy, but some of them have been considered overrated just because celebrities try to do it, and so everyone else jumps on the trend as well. One of the most popular diets today is the ketogenic diet, commonly known as the zero-carb diet.
This low-carb trend took off when celebrities, such as the Kardashians, Lebron James, Vanessa Hudgens, Gwyneth Paltrow and Adriana Lima, started recommending it. However, it would seem as if most people have been getting into it without thinking about its side effects or researching on better alternatives out there.
The keto diet is known to be a type of diet wherein you consume foods that are high in fats and protein, while keeping your carb intake to a maximum of 20 grams per day. Once the glycogen levels inside the body have been depleted, it starts burning fat instead of glucose through a process called ketosis. This is when the body burns the fat and turn it into energy as well as turn the fat into ketones inside the liver, that basically help supply the brain with energy.
This is said to be one of the most effective weight-loss diets out there that can help you shed a couple of pounds easily, hence a lot of people are recommending it. There is no need for you to worry about the calories you’re gaining or losing, since this is so filling that you’ll lose weight either way.
In fact, it was discovered in a new study that those who tried the keto diet lost three times more than those who tried it with other diets around the same time. This is even recommended for those who has chronic illnesses such as diabetes, because it can help lose excess fat and improve insulin levels.
However, it turns out that no matter how many benefits it has, the keto diet also has many downsides as well. According to Dr. Nancy P. Rahnama, keto diet can drop the libido, and a lot of people have indeed noticed it while there were only starting the diet. She said that it usually begins when the flu-like symptoms are over because of the carb withdrawal. She said that it may be one of the reasons why the libido resets prior to the weight loss and the new lifestyle the body is trying to adapt to.
Registered dietitian Stephanie McKercher also said that the keto diet may be effective for some especially when it comes to weight loss, but it still needs further research since there are still a lot of things that experts don’t know about it. There is one similar diet in particular that has been popularized by Will Cole, and it is said to be safer and way better than the Keto diet.
Why The Ketotarian Diet Is Better
Almost everyone knows what keto diet is and there is now another diet that may be way more effective than its predecessor. Lo and behold the ketotarian diet, known to be a hybrid of keto and vegetarian diet, to minimize the consumption of animal fats, which are known to cause a number of health complications. Instead of animal protein, this new diet calls for plant-based foods like avocado, nuts, olives and coconuts which are all high in fats.
According to the book, the main goal for this diet is to have the same weight loss benefits as the keto as well as stabilising blood sugar levels, but the difference is that the body won’t have to deal with excessive meat fat. The man who created the diet basically said that it’s like a plant-based diet, however, that particular diet may cause nutrient deficiencies and even a possibility of inflammation hence it is not advisable.

SERVES 2 1 small beet 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 1 tablespoon minced shallots 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil ½ teaspoon preservative-free, sugar-free Dijon mustard ¼ teaspoon sea salt ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 4 ounces soft fresh vegan cheese, sliced 1 small avocado, pitted, peeled, and sliced ¼ cup raw, unsalted almonds, lightly toasted and coarsely chopped 5 leaves fresh basil, thinly sliced 1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Wrap the beet in foil. Roast until tender when pierced with a fork, about 1 hour. When the beet is cool enough to handle, peel it and cut it into about 8 slices. 2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, shallots, oil, mustard, ⅛ teaspoon salt, and ⅛ teaspoon pepper. 3. Arrange the beet, cheese, and avocado slices on 2 plates and sprinkle with nuts and basil. Sprinkle evenly with the remaining ⅛ teaspoon salt and ⅛ teaspoon pepper, and drizzle evenly with the vinaigrette. . . This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to become vegetarian though, since you can even eat bacon. There is only an eight-week period where you have to eat nothing but plant-based foods. However, once that is over you may have meat once or twice a week. There are now a lot of ketotarian recipes out there that you can try, but before anything else, it is always ideal to make sure that you are healthy enough to be any sort of diet.
